About the audio

The brief (as it usually is) was to design and install a sound system that met the venues needs for day trade through to the late night hours, with a DJ or band leading the entertainment. This design had to ensure the speakers were out of sight and not using valuable realestate. As the venue is around 90 square metres including back of house, space is at a premium and alongside the sensitive decor requirements, small but powerful loudspeakers were the only option.

It was decided to go with the Meyer Sound for this job as they were the best product to satisfy the project criteria. The system consists of UP4XP's with UMS1XP sub on the dance floor area with the rest of the 4 zones being covered by MM4XP's. The bar zone was tricky to workout, due to cabling restrictions the speakers had to be behind the bar rather than above or in front of it. This was a problem because the entire backbar wall was slated for shelves to hold the venues impressive array of spirits (over 900 bottles and counting), so there was no way a big loudspeaker would fit. Fortunately due to the small size, high SPL and robust mounting bracket, the MM4XPs are attached to the underside of the 2nd highest shelf, consuming no usable bottle space but effortlessly covering the patron are in front of the bar. The speakers are carefully placed in shadowy corners or in amongst industrial pipework to reduce their visibility. The sub is recessed into a wall and cupboard cavity.

Even audio professionals who have visited the venue comment on how good it sounds and how hard the loudspeakers are to spot.
